2026: APC appoints Ododo as chairman of Ekiti primary election

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has been appointed chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Primary Election Committee for Ekiti State ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.

The appointment, confirmed in a letter signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and addressed to the Ekiti State Party Chairman, Mr Sola Eleshin, underscores the ruling party’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and credible consensus process.

According to the letter, Edo State Governor, Monday Okhpebolo, will serve as deputy chairman, while Mr Taiwo Sunmonu has been named secretary of the committee.

Other members include Iyom Nikky Ejezie, Elis Abraham, Rufus Bature, Latif Ibirogba, Dr Chibuzor Agu, Chief Dr Gabriel Oyebode, Chief Hope Dike, and Shehu Umaru.

Governor Ododo’s committee is expected to oversee the affirmation of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the APC’s sole governorship candidate during the primary election scheduled for Monday at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti.

The party had earlier selected five delegates per ward to participate in the process, which will formally affirm Oyebanji’s candidacy ahead of the 2026 election.

Speaking during the ward congress in Ikogosi Ekiti, Chairman of the Congress Committee, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise and lauded party members for their unity and discipline.

Governor Oyebanji, in his remarks, said the consensus arrangement reflected the strength and cohesion within the Ekiti APC, adding that the party was poised to achieve record-breaking victories in the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
