2026 WCQ: Akor Adams equals record set by Obafemi Martins, Aghahowa with Lesotho goal

Sevilla striker, Akor Adams, joined an exclusive club with his debut goal for Nigeria, in the 2-1 win over Lesotho in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Friday.

Adams doubled the Super Eagles’ lead, finishing off Victor Osimhen’s pass in the second half.

This comes days after the 25-year-old scored in the 4-1 win over Barcelona in LaLiga.

His performances over the past months led to Eric Chelle calling up him to the national team.

Adams repaid the faith after he found the back of the net after only 17 minutes on the pitch.

With his goal against Lesotho, Adams becomes one of the few players to score on their first appearance for Nigeria.

The others are Julius Aghahowa who scored in the final group game against Morocco at AFCON 2000, while Obafemi Martins did the same in a friendly against Ireland in May 2004.

Ekigho Ehiosun, Stephen Ayo Makinwa, and Femi Opabunmi are other Nigerian footballers to have scored on their debut for the senior national team.
