2026 WCQ: Super Eagles must fight to beat Benin Republic – Onigbinde

Former Super Eagles head coach Adegboye Onigbinde has challenged the team to give their all in the clash with Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles will host Gernot Rohr’s side in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Tuesday.

Nigeria currently sit in third position in Group C with 14 points from nine matches.

Eric Chelle’s side must beat the Cheetahs, and also hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda, to qualify for the global soccer fiesta.

Onigbinde said he is hopeful the Super Eagles will beat Benin Republic and South Africa to the ticket.

“It’s a pity that we find ourselves in this situation, but then, I expect the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Whether or not we are adequately prepared for that is what I don’t know,” Onigbinde, who has managed the Super Eagles twice in the past told Completes sports.

“The players must do the needful first against Benin and hope for favours elsewhere.”

Tuesday’s encounter will kick-off at 5:00 pm Nigerian time.
