2026 World Cup: Shaka Hislop warns Portugal against relying on Ronaldo

Former West Ham United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has warned Portugal not to rely on their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hislop believes the Al Nassr forward is not the player he once was.

He spoke after Ronaldo, 40, scored a brace during Portugal’s 2-2 draw against Hungary in their 2026 World Cup qualifier clash on Tuesday.

Speaking about the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star, Hislop said: “Is Cristiano Ronaldo the striker that you rely on?

“World Cup qualifiers, yes. I don’t think there is any question about that.

“But at the World Cup, in the knockouts, is he the guy you rely on to pull you out of the fire? I’m not so certain he’s still that person.”

Ronaldo will hope to lead Portugal to victory when they face Ireland in a World Cup qualifier in November.
