Many terrorists eliminated as military airstrikes hit hideout in Zamfara

Nigerian troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have carried out air operations against suspected terrorists in Yankuzo community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, reportedly killing several fighters.

This was made known in a post on X by a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, on Tuesday.

Makama, citing local sources, said the operation took place on the evening of Sept. 7, 2026, when five military aircraft were said to have conducted a coordinated operation over the community.

According to the report, sources said the aircraft engaged suspected terrorists in the area, with several of the fighters reportedly killed, although the exact number of casualties could not immediately be established.

Among those reportedly killed was a terrorist identified as Isiya Gurgu, said to be a close associate of a notorious bandit leader known as Musa Commander, who is reportedly linked to the Ado Aleru network.

The report claimed that Musa Commander is associated with several terrorist-controlled communities, including Tsamiya and other settlements in the area.

According to the account, the security forces appeared to have exercised caution during the operation to minimise civilian casualties, with the engagement reportedly focused on individuals seen carrying weapons or dressed in military-style uniforms.

Several other suspected terrorists were also reportedly wounded during the operation.

Yankuzo has reportedly remained a stronghold for armed groups linked to the notorious Ado Aleru network, with residents allegedly facing persistent threats from fighters operating in and around the community.

Further details on the casualties and the outcome of the operation are expected as security agencies continue to assess the situation.
