2027: Borno Rep Balami dumps APC, picks Accord Party ticket
The lawmaker representing Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, Usman Midala Balami, has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Accord Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Balami, who is Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Communications, said his decision followed consultations with political leaders, supporters, family members and associates.
He announced his resignation from the APC in a letter dated June 15, 2026, addressed to the party and endorsed by his ward chairman in Hawul Local Government Area.
“After due consultations with leaders across political parties, as well as friends, family and loved ones, I have found it necessary to tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
Balami said he left the APC because of what he described as the failure to conduct credible, free, fair and transparent primary elections, which he said denied aspirants equal opportunities to participate.
He added that he chose not to participate in the party’s primary election.
The lawmaker expressed appreciation to the APC and its leadership for the platform and opportunity to serve, saying his experience in the party contributed to his growth and public service.
Balami’s name has since appeared on the Accord Party’s list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for the constituency in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on his emergence as the Accord candidate, Balami thanked the party leadership, stakeholders and constituents for their support.
He said he would consolidate on his achievements in the constituency if re-elected.
