Super Falcons: Ajibade provides injury update after Comoros clash

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has broken her silence following the ankle injury she sustained during Nigeria’s second-leg encounter against Comoros in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.

The 26-year-old was forced off in the 23rd minute after colliding with an opponent, with Folashade Ijamilusi introduced as her replacement.

Reports have emerged suggesting that the Paris Saint-Germain forward could require surgery, which may keep her sidelined for an extended period.

However, Ajibade has revealed that medical scans and consultations are still ongoing, with further information to be made available when confirmed.

In a message posted on X, the Super Falcons skipper expressed gratitude for the team’s performance in the qualifying campaign and the overwhelming support she has received since the incident.

Ajibade described it as an honour to lead the national team, praising her teammates for their unity, discipline and determination as they began their quest for Olympic qualification.

Addressing her injury, she said the medical assessments were still in progress but assured fans that she was doing okay and remained in high spirits.

The forward also thanked her teammates, family, technical and medical staff, and fans for their prayers, messages and encouragement during the difficult period.

“Another international break has come to an end, and I’m grateful,” she wrote

“It is an honour to lead this group of women. I am proud of how our team began its road to the Olympics, and of the unity, discipline and fight each player brought to the national team.

“I also want to address the incident that happened to me during the second leg against Comoros. Scans and medical consultations are ongoing, and more updates will be shared when available.

“At the moment, I’m doing okay and my spirits are high.

“To everyone who reached out with messages, prayers and kind words, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To my teammates, family, technical and medical staff, and our fans, I felt every bit of your love and support.

“For now, my focus is on recovery and returning stronger for club and country.”
