Shehu Sani reveals 3 common factors why terrorists murder Northern clerics

Former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has revealed why prominent clerics are being assassinated in the North.

In a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday, Sani said all the prominent clerics that have been assassinated in the North in the last fifteen years have three common factors that undoubtedly led to their elimination.

He listed the three common factors as speaking out against extremism, advocating for inter religious tolerance and peace and mentioning the name of terror leaders or groups in their sermons.

According to him, in 2011, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and himself privately went to Maiduguri to initiate a dialogue for peace.

He said that after the event, they headed back to Abuja, but the next day, the man who facilitated the dialogue was eliminated and they received threats.

"All the prominent clerics that have been assassinated in the North in the last fifteen years were killed for speaking out against terrorism.

"The terrorists want silence or they will silence," Shehu Sani said.
