INEC: Yakubu Should Be Arrested So He Doesn’t Run Away

A Human rights lawyer, Maxwell Okpara has demanded the arrest of the immediate outgone Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu.
Okpara made the demand on Wednesday.
While responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television, he also said Yakubu deserved the award for the worst electoral umpire in the world
This is coming almost 24 hours after Yakubu bowed out as chairman of the electoral body and then handed over the mantle of leadership to the oldest serving National Commissioner of the Commission, May Agbamuche, in acting capacity.
“He declared the results and asked Nigerians to go to court, fully aware of what the court’s judgment would be.
“He ought to have been arrested, he has left behind a bad legacy. The younger generation now sees Nigeria’s elections as a cash-and-carry affair.
“The president has given him a national honour because he (president) is a beneficiary of the irregularity championed by Prof Yakubu.
“If we were in a sane society, as he was leaving the office, the anti-graft agencies should step in, arrest him and prevent him from leaving the shores of this country,” he said.
