2027: Decision of who succeeds me rests with Oyo residents – Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that the decision of who succeeds him rests with the residents of the state.

The governor made these declarations on Thursday while speaking at a stakeholders’ consultative and engagement meeting on the 2026 budget held in Ibadan, the state capital.

Makinde while addressing the gathering, declared that the people of the state will not fall for sloganeering.

He said that the people of the state will ask all the right questions from candidates they will contest during the election.

He added that gone are the days of let us allow him to do it.

He maintained that the people will ask the necessary questions from the candidates.

Makinde also disclosed that the federal government made a statement trying to demonise the governors, telling the people that the governors have more money.

He said, “Having said that, the decision on who would be the next governor rests with the people of Oyo State. We will make our own submission to the people, because Oyo State has gone beyond stunt politics.

“Maybe it used to happen in the past. Now, Oyo State people will ask you questions.

“Let me also say that the Federal Government made a statement trying to demonise the governors, telling the people that the governors have more money. What is the purchasing power parity? What we have tried to do in Oyo State is to ensure that the government is able to provide an environment where businesses can thrive.”
