Police rescue 18 children in Abia, apprehend 10 suspects for child stealing, conspiracy
The Abia State Police Command has rescued eighteen children, comprising eight infants and ten stolen children, adding that it also arrested ten suspects for conspiracy and child stealing.
The command also urged members of the public whose children or infants are missing or stolen to visit the Gender Section of the State CID, Abia State Command, or contact the OC Gender.
A statement released by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, on Friday, said that on 27/09/2025 at about 09:40hrs, a complaint was received at Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters that a young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, who came to Aba with her two children, was lured by a young man under the guise of marriage.
However, upon arrival in Aba, the man asked her to get food for herself and the children while he stayed with them. On her return, she could not find the man or her children, and all efforts to reach him proved abortive.
The police statement said that, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, officers of the Command on 08/10/2025 stormed a residence where stolen children were suspected to be kept and apprehended five suspects, Mrs. Best Ndubusi, Charles Enyinnaya, Eunice Ezekiel, Nnena Kalu, and Gideon Esther and rescued one infant and seven children.
It added that, in furtherance of the investigation, on 09/10/2025, officers of the Command stormed another residence along Aba/Owerri Road, where more stolen children were kept. Four suspects; Obiegbunam Von, Ezeoma Rejoice, Ngozi Owoh, and Favour Ernest, were arrested, while seven infants and three children were rescued.
The statement further said that, again, on 10/10/2025, officers of the Command apprehended another suspect, Brittney Oyemuwa Zion, and rescued one child, while the investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Speaking on the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Danladi Isa, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all Abia residents, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
