Man of great power’- Nathaniel Bassey mourns Uma Ukapi, recounts spiritual impact

Renowned gospel artist, Nathaniel Bassey has paid an emotional tribute to the late Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai, describing the revered evangelist as a true spiritual father and one of the greatest influences on his Christian journey.

In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, the ‘Imela’ crooner reflected on the impact of Ukpai’s teachings and lifestyle, particularly his devotion to prayer and fasting, which deeply shaped Bassey’s own ministry practices.

“Oh! Dr Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die. Just a few days ago, I led multitudes in an evening fast, something I learnt from you and even mentioned so. You called me son. What a privilege. A man who knows the ways of the spirit” Bassey wrote.

He described Ukpai as “a man of great power, immense stature, and deep spiritual understanding,” noting that the late preacher exemplified how worship and praise could serve as powerful tools for victory in spiritual warfare.

According to Bassey, Ukpai’s ministry went far beyond miracles but also about unveiling the mysteries of faith and humility in the walk with God.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away on October 6 at the age of 80, was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists.

His death, confirmed by his family a week later, has sparked an outpouring of tributes from church leaders, gospel ministers, and believers across the country.
