Three European clubs celebrate Super Eagles’ qualification for 2026 World Cup playoffs

Three European clubs have reacted to the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

The clubs are Brentford, Fulham and Sevilla.

Recall that Nigeria thrashed the Benin Republic 4–0 to finish second in Group C and advance to the World Cup playoffs, courtesy of a hat-trick from Victor Osimhen and a goal from Frank Onyeka.

Eric Chelle’s men join the likes of Gabon, Burkina Faso and Cameroon in the playoffs.

Reacting on X after Nigeria’s victory over Benin, Fulham, who have three Nigerian players — Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze — in their squad, wrote: “Our three Naija boys started in a crucial World Cup qualifying victory, with Samu getting two assists.”

Similarly, Sevilla, who have Super Eagles striker Akor Adams in their team, said: “Akor earned his first start for Nigeria in a 4–0 win to secure a place in the playoffs for the World Cup. We mount.”

Brentford, who have Onyeka in their squad, also posted: “Frank the Tank.

“Frank Onyeka’s goal guarantees the Super Eagles a spot in the Play-Offs for next summer’s World Cup.”
