Earlier in the day, Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Everton had briefly sent Pep Guardiola’s men to the summit, but Mikel Arteta’s side reclaimed top spot with a composed, professional performance by the River Thames.

“It’s a really tough place to come. We’ve experienced that in recent years,” Arteta said after the match. “We had some giveaways in the first half, but we grew into the game and became more dominant.”

Arsenal have now won six of their opening eight league matches as they continue their pursuit of a first Premier League title since 2004.

Fulham started brightly, with Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez testing Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya early on.

Riccardo Calafiori thought he had put the Gunners ahead midway through the first half, but his goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

After missed chances from Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyökeres, Arsenal finally made their breakthrough in the 58th minute. From Saka’s corner, Gabriel Magalhães flicked the ball on, and Trossard reacted quickest to slot home from close range.

The win moves Arsenal three points clear at the top, reaffirming their early-season title credentials as Arteta’s men continue to build momentum.
