Nigeria’s elections have improved since PDP left presidency – Akpabio

President of the senate, Godswill Akpabio, says since the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, left the presidency in 2023, Nigeria’s elections have seen immense improvement.

Akpabio made this statement on Wednesday at plenary during second reading of Electoral Act Amendment Bill

“Since the PDP left, the elections have improved tremendously in this country. Imagine in this last election, we had to go up to the Supreme Court, arguing over whether winning the FCT was the only reason why you should become president,” he said.

Akpabio mentioned that some people, whose names he will not disclose, from Anambra State, traveled abroad during the 2023 elections to craft documents.

He added that immediately after the election, they went to court and submitted papers that could not be folded.

While passing the bill, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said “A bill for an Act to repeal the Electoral Number 13 of 2022 and enact the Electoral Act 2025 to regulate the conduct of Federal, States and Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, elections and for related matters 2025 second reading taken.”
