FCT Police redeploy DPO over viral assault video in Ushafa

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, has ordered the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division after a video emerged showing him slapping a young man during an arrest.

The video, which went viral on X on Tuesday, drew widespread criticism from Netizens who condemned the officer’s actions as a clear case of misconduct and abuse of power.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Commissioner viewed the officer’s behaviour as “unacceptable and inconsistent with the values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.”

According to her, the officer has been moved to the command headquarters pending the outcome of an internal investigation. “The situation is under investigation, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken,” she said.

CP Dantawaye reminded all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to act with civility and professionalism while carrying out their duties, warning that any breach of conduct would be met with strict sanctions.
