‎1. Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Prof. Joash Amupitan assumed duty on Thursday with a promise that the integrity of the nation’s electoral system was not negotiable. Amupitan resumed office shortly after he was sworn in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

2. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will screen all members contesting the various offices at the forthcoming National Convention of the party on Tuesday, October 28 at the Legacy House in Abuja. Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced this in a statement on Thursday.

3. The Federal Government has dismissed eight officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, compulsorily retired five officers and reduced the ranks of eight others for various acts of misconducts. The government also dismissed two junior personnel from the Service for criminal acts bothering on kidnapping, stealing and illegal possession of fire arms.

4. Troops of the Operation “Hadin Kai”, OPHK, said they killed more than 50 terrorists and repelled multiple coordinated attacks on military locations in Borno and Yobe States. Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, OPHK, in a statement in Maiduguri, said the simultaneous attacks occurred between midnight and 0400 hours on Thursday.

5. More than 500 stalls were destroyed during a fire outbreak at Shuwaki Market in Gari Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident occurred around 3:25pm on Wednesday.

6. The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, says the agency has recovered over N566 billion and contributed significantly to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms through enforcement, asset recovery, and institutional renewal.

7. The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill seeking to amend the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, to confer institutional independence on the anti-corruption agency. The resolution of the House followed the consideration of a bill sponsored by Plateau State lawmaker, Yusuf Gagdi, during Thursday’s plenary.

8. A yet-to-be-identified young woman was discovered dead with stab wounds behind the fence of a university located in the Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. It was learnt on Thursday that residents of the community discovered the corpse on Tuesday and promptly alerted the police.

9. The Niger State Government has conducted a mass burial for the victims of the tanker explosion that left no fewer than 39 people dead and 60 others injured at the Essan community in Katcha Local Government Area of the state. This is as the state government said it had donated medical supplies worth N10m to support the various hospitals that are treating the injured victims.

10. A shawarma vendor has been shot dead by some assailants suspected to be cultists at his shop located in the Mowo area along the Badagry Expressway, Lagos State. It was gathered on Thursday from a source who did not want to be named due to the nature of the incident that it occurred on Wednesday night.
