U17 WWC: Flamingos wallop Samoa 4-0 to reach round of 16

Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, booked their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after a dominant 4-0 victory over Samoa in Rabat.

Queen Joseph scored twice to take her tournament tally to three goals, while captain Shakirat Moshood converted a first-half penalty and defender Azeezat Oduntan added a superb strike from the wing.

After a 4-1 loss to Canada and a narrow defeat to France, the Flamingos knew only a convincing win would secure qualification, and they delivered in style.

Joseph opened the scoring in the 13th minute, before Moshood doubled the lead from the spot after a handball by Holly Leapai.

Joseph added a third following fine work from Nguemo Terlumun, and Oduntan sealed the win midway through the second half.

The victory ensured Nigeria, bronze medallists at the 2022 edition in India, advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament.
