Lagos Task Force impounds 64 tricycles for violating traffic laws

The Lagos State Task Force has seized at least 64 commercial motorcycles (okadas) for operating on restricted routes and highways, in clear violation of the state’s traffic regulations.

The enforcement operation, which was part of the state’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order on its roads, was led by the Task Force Chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Adetayo Akerele.

According to a statement issued by the agency, the clampdown took place on Monday, October 27, 2025, and focused on erring motorcyclists, street traders, illegal park operators, and other violators across major highways and inner routes within Lagos Mainland.

The exercise, which commenced around 11:00 a.m., was conducted in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, which prohibits Okada operations on specified highways and major routes in the state.

Areas covered during the operation included Ebute Metta, Gbagada–Oshodi Expressway, Oshodi–Apapa Expressway, Lagos–Badagry Expressway, and parts of Surulere Local Government Area, among other restricted routes.

The enforcement team also patrolled major roads such as Apapa Road, Murtala Mohammed Way, Herbert Macaulay Road, Western Avenue, Iganmu Roundabout, Eric Moore Road, Bode Thomas, Babs Animashaun Street, Ogunlana Drive, Itire Link Bridge, Muyiwa Opaleye Street, Odo-Olowu, Gbagada–Anthony Expressway, Ikorodu Road, 2nd Rainbow, and Alakija.

Reiterating the government’s resolve to restore discipline on Lagos roads, the Task Force said the operation was designed to curb lawlessness, enhance road safety, and protect lives and property.

“The Lagos State Government remains unwavering in enforcing the Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, which bans Okada on restricted highways and major routes,” the statement read.

“Our goal is to ensure safety, orderliness, and the free flow of traffic across the state. This enforcement drive will continue until total compliance is achieved.”
