‎1. The Senate on Thursday approved the nomination of Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister. The confirmation of Doro followed a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes during plenary. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, witnessed the screening and confirmation.

2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decorated the new Service Chiefs with their new ranks in the military to suit their new positions. The newly decorated handlers of the nation’s Armed Forces include Lieutenant General, now General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, as Chief of Defence Staff; and Major General now Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiendeye Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence, CDI.

3. Major marketers of petroleum products on Thursday warned that the introduction of the 15 per cent import duty on petrol and diesel could signal another round of fuel price increase. The approval of the duty by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is causing division in the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry.

4. The United Church of Christ in Nigeria, also known as HEKAN, has condemned the brutal killing of one of its clergies, Reverend Yahaya Kambasaya, and the abduction of some villagers in Farin Dutse, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, left the community in shock and deep mourning, according to a statement signed by Rev. Dr Amos G. Kiri, President of HEKAN.

5. Armed bandits have attacked Kurawa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing three persons, including the acting village head. The attackers, who invaded the community in the early hours of Thursday, also abducted several residents and rustled more than 40 cattle.

6. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed service chiefs to intensify efforts to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities across the country, emphasising that Nigerians expect results, not excuses. President Tinubu delivered this charge on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, following the decoration of the service chiefs with their new ranks.

7. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the posting and appointment of senior officers to key commands, staff and instructional positions across formations, units and training institutions of the Nigerian Army. The move, Shaibu said, was aimed at reinvigorating leadership, strengthening command structures and repositioning the Nigerian Army for heightened operational effectiveness.

8. The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, begging it to stop alleged plot to impeach him from office. The plaintiff, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/2219/2025, alleged that he was targeted for impeachment owing to his decision not to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

9. Eight political associations have completed the initial stage of the political party registration process, while six were disqualified, the Independent National Electoral Commission said on Thursday. The National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed this development in a statement.

10. Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Thursday boasted that nobody can defeat him in the August 8, 2026 governorship election, saying he was not afraid of any federal might. Speaking with newsmen after facing the Osun Peoples Democratic Party, the Governorship Screening Committee in Abuja on Thursday, the Governor boasted that he was confident that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not do anything at will “mess up his administration”.
