US Senator, Ted Cruz introduces bill to sanction Nigerian officials backing violence, Sharia laws

United States Senator, Ted Cruz said he has introduced a bill to protect Nigerian Christians against alleged genocide.

He disclosed this in a terse statement on his official X account Thursday.

Cruz said the bill is aimed at imposing sanctions on Nigerian government officials who permit violence and enforce sharia or blasphemy laws.

“Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has already introduced a bill to protect Nigerian Christians by imposing sanctions on government officials who permit violence and enforce sharia or blasphemy laws, which in the nation carry the death penalty”, he wrote on X.

The US lawmaker had earlier urged the White House to impose sanctions on Nigerian government officials and twelve states over Sharia and blasphemy laws.

This comes as President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.

Trump later threatened military action in Nigeria if nothing is done about the killings in the country.
