2026 WCQ playoffs: Chelle invites suspended Semi Ajayi for Nigeria vs Gabon

The head coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, has invited Semi Ajayi for the 2026 World Cup playoffs, despite the player being suspended for the Gabon game.

Ajayi picked up a yellow card in the 4-0 thrashing of Benin Republic, as Nigeria rounded off their qualifying series with an important win.

Although he is expected to sit out the game against the Panthers on November 13, Chelle has included him in a 24-man squad released on Saturday morning.

It is believed Chelle has called up Ajayi, because he would be eligible to face either DR Congo or Cameroon, if the Eagles beat Gabon.

Recall that Ademola Lookman was suspended for the Benin Republic game but having served that ban, he is set to lead Nigeria’s attack in the playoffs alongside Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze.
