Chelsea: You’ve to give them chances to make mistakes – Maresca hits back at Rooney

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hit back at Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, over his comments on his constant rotation of players in matches this season.

Maresca’s rotation strategy was largely criticized following Chelsea’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League this week.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with Wolves on Saturday, Maresca replied to Rooney’s comments.

The Italian pointed out that his young players need to make mistakes so that they can improve.

“I said many times already: we are in an era when anyone can say what they want. I said after the Qarabag game: Since I joined the club, it is also my view to rotate players,” Maresca said (via Football London).

“When you don’t win games, nobody agrees. When it is Andrey Santos, Jorrel Hato, and Joao Pedro, it is not about rotation.

“They are young, you have to give them the chances to make mistakes so they can become better.”
