Adeboye to Security Chiefs: End terror in 90 days or resign

Enoch Adeboye the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has issued a strong public mandate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to impose a 90-day ultimatum on Nigeria’s security chiefs to decisively eliminate terrorist groups or face immediate dismissal.

Adeboye, speaking after the church’s November Holy Ghost Service, “The Eve of Glory,” also called for urgent and wise diplomatic engagement with the United States President to secure a 100-day grace period for Nigeria to end its security crisis amidst rising international concerns. He stressed that the sanctity of every human life requires swift, non-partisan action.

Beyond defeating terrorists, the revered cleric emphasised that the ordered action must include identifying and exposing the sponsors of terrorism and insurgency across the country, regardless of their influence or status. He warned that the gravity of the situation demands immediate results, not political posturing.

“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say to our government: move fast, move diplomatically, move wisely,” Adeboye stated. “Find a way to convince the President of America to delay his actions for about 100 days. Then come home and tell our security chiefs to get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign.”

Adeboye urged President Tinubu to ensure that when orders are given to service chiefs, they are explicit: they must not only eliminate the terrorist groups but also “their sponsors, no matter how powerful they are.”

The urgency of the diplomatic plea, Adeboye explained, stems from the reality of global politics. He cautioned the nation’s leaders that if the United States acts against Nigeria due to the crisis, other world powers will offer no meaningful assistance.

“If America attacks us, China, Russia, and other world powers will condemn it strongly but that’s all they’ll do. Britain won’t come to help us. No foreign power will,” he warned, stressing that “This is not the time for jokes, grammar, or arguments. It’s not about Christians or Muslims  innocent people are dying.”

Providing context on his previous counsel, the cleric revealed that he has related with all presidents who were in office when the security trouble escalated. He specifically recalled giving similar advice to the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who “issued such an order” but lamented that the effort was not sustained.

Adeboye concluded that while he has always acted privately behind the scenes, offering counsel to the Commander-in-Chief is the extent of his authority. “Whatever I discussed with them privately, I did my best behind the scenes. But you can only advise the Commander-in-Chief  you can’t command him,” he said.
