Ikoyi Ladies Golf Club marks 50th anniversary with star-studded golf tourney

Golfers from 11 countries will gather in Lagos to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ikoyi Ladies Golf Club, with an exciting open amateur golf tournament scheduled for November 11 to 13, 2025, at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section, Lagos.

The tournament, a highlight of the club’s Golden Jubilee festivities, will feature top amateur golfers from within and outside Nigeria, showcasing their skills on one of the country’s most prestigious courses.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Peggy Onwu, Lady Captain Ikoyi Ladies Golf Section, said over 150 golfers have registered for the event, which promises mouth-watering prizes, including a trophy and a premium ticket to the United States.

She noted that the celebration is not just about golf but also about resilience, commitment, and team spirit that have defined the club over the past five decades.

“This tournament will be a memorable outing, offering mentorship opportunities for young ladies keen on honing their golfing skills,” Onwu said.

Vice Lady Captain Annie Eimiakhena added that the three-day event will not only feature competitive play but also provide opportunities for networking and a Golf Masterclass aimed at introducing newcomers to the sport.

A highlight of the tournament will be the appearance of Bali Lawal, the Nigerian-born, Italy-based golfer and fashion icon, alongside several top professionals expected at the event.

Akinwumi Akintola, Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, commended the Ladies Section for its dedication and growth over the years, describing the Golden Jubilee as “a celebration of 50 years of passion, excellence, and camaraderie.”

“This milestone reflects the unbroken spirit of women who have continuously elevated the game of golf in Nigeria,” Akintola stated.
