De Ligt’s last-gasp header earns Man United draw at Tottenham
Matthijs de Ligt struck deep into stoppage time to rescue Manchester United a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur after a chaotic finale in north London.
The thrilling encounter, a repeat of May’s Europa League final, looked set to go the way of Ruben Amorim’s side until Richarlison thought he had scored a stoppage-time winner for Spurs. But De Ligt’s towering header in the sixth minute of added time salvaged a point for United.

United had taken the lead in the 32nd minute when Bryan Mbeumo headed home Amad Diallo’s precise right-wing cross, haunting his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham, booed off at half-time after a poor first half, found renewed energy late on. Substitute Mathys Tel equalised in the 84th minute with a sharp finish before Richarlison turned in a second to complete the comeback seven minutes later, sparking wild celebrations.
However, United refused to give up, even after Benjamin Sesko’s injury left them down to 10 men. De Ligt rose highest from a corner to power home the equaliser, stunning the home fans and denying Spurs a long-awaited home victory.
The result was heartbreak for Richarlison, who was left in tears after believing he had scored the winner, while Amorim’s United side escaped with a point in dramatic fashion.
