Kebbi Gov leads interfaith prayers for peace, unity amid insecurity

The Kebbi State Government on Saturday organised an interfaith prayer session in Birnin Kebbi, seeking divine intervention over the growing security challenges in the state and across the country.

Governor Nasir Idris, who spoke at the event, said the session was aimed at strengthening unity between Muslims and Christians and seeking lasting peace.

“No state can claim to be 100 per cent peaceful. The issue of security should not be politicised. Those saying Kebbi or Nigeria is not peaceful, or that there is no cordial relationship between Muslims and Christians, are only spreading falsehood,” he said.

He noted that Kebbi had enjoyed relative peace compared to other states but stressed the need for continuous prayers to sustain harmony.

The event, organised by the Ministry for Religious Affairs, brought together Muslim and Christian clerics from the 21 local government areas of the state to pray against banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of insecurity.

Dignitaries present included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu; former Chief Judge of Kebbi State, Justice Bala Mairiga; Chairman of the State Council of Ulama, Abubakar Riba; Chairman of the Preaching Board, Umar Malisa; and Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state, Femi Orofin.

The clerics offered intercessory prayers for peace, stability, and the safety of communities affected by insecurity.
