NSCDC officer pleads guilty to N1.7m fraud

Sani Yakubu, a Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of funds totaling ₦1.7 million.

Yakubu was arraigned before A.A. Isiaka, Justice of the Kaduna State High Court 12 on November 4, 2025, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

His arraignment followed allegations that he diverted funds belonging to one Mrs. Vennica Idoko, which he had received on her behalf while acting in his official capacity as an NSCDC officer.

According to a statement issued by Demola Bakare, ICPC spokesperson and Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Yakubu was charged under Sections 294, 300, and 86 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State for dishonest misappropriation of entrusted funds.

“The ICPC accused the defendant of dishonestly misappropriating the sum of ₦1,720,000 belonging to Mrs. Vennica Idoko, being money officially received by him on her behalf in the course of his duty,” the statement read in part.

During the court proceedings, Yakubu reportedly broke down in tears as he admitted to the offence and pleaded guilty to all three counts.

Following his plea, Isiaka adjourned the case to November 12, 2025, for judgment and sentencing.

ICPC reaffirmed commitment to ensuring accountability and integrity in public service. He warned that any public official found abusing their position for personal gain would face the full consequences of the law.

“This case serves as a reminder that corruption, in whatever form or amount, undermines public confidence in government institutions and will not be tolerated,” ICPC said.
