ADC calls for discipline, unity to strengthen party stability in Plateau

The Plateau State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for discipline, unity, and adherence to party principles as part of efforts to strengthen internal stability and cohesion within its ranks.

Speaking at a press conference in Jos, Manasseh Natyil, the Plateau Central Zonal Chairman, declared the state leadership’s total support for Hanatu Gagara to remain the recognised chairman of the party in Plateau State.

Natyil, who spoke on behalf of the state executives and stakeholders, urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to review the report of the North Central Reconciliation Committee to ensure fairness, neutrality, and strict compliance with the party’s constitution. He noted that Gagara’s leadership has brought renewed unity and progress to the Plateau chapter.

The ADC leaders further called on the national chairman to formally reaffirm to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public that Gagara remains the duly recognised state chairman. They also demanded disciplinary measures against any member parading himself as chairman in defiance of the NWC’s directive.

“The NWC should issue a formal clarification to INEC and the general public reaffirming the current leadership structure in Plateau. Disciplinary action should be taken against any member undermining party authority,” the statement read in part.

The press conference, which was attended by the 17 local government chairmen of the ADC and other key stakeholders, ended with a unanimous endorsement of Gagara’s continued leadership. Participants described her as a stabilising force whose tenure reflects the core values of loyalty, discipline, and service.

They explained that Samuel Gyang, who previously acted as chairman for four months, had been suspended by the NWC and not reinstated. According to them, any purported recognition of Gyang as substantive chairman was made in error and should be corrected to avoid further confusion.

The stakeholders also highlighted that the ADC constitution provides for 35 percent female representation in leadership positions, noting that Gagara’s retention aligns with the party’s commitment to gender inclusion and empowerment.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the national structure, the party leaders appealed for continued peace and internal unity while urging the NWC to consolidate stability by retaining Gagara as the Plateau State Chairman and considering other suitable roles for Gyang if necessary.
