Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, has been accused of attempting to orchestrate the arrest of activist and filmmaker Stanley Ontop for openly showing support to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and her family amid their ongoing marital dispute.

Multiple sources who spoke to SaharaReporters alleged that the senator had perfected plans to use security operatives to arrest and detain Ontop indefinitely.

The activist also raised the alarm in a Facebook post, claiming his life and freedom were under threat for siding with the actress.

Nwoko, who has often been accused of using his political influence and connections within the Nigeria Police Force to harass and intimidate critics, is alleged to be targeting Ontop for amplifying Regina Daniels’ family’s grievances.

The controversy follows growing tensions between the couple, with the actress accusing her husband of domestic violence and intimidation allegations the senator has denied, claiming instead that Regina struggles with substance abuse.

In an open letter, Regina Daniels’ family from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, reportedly called on Nwoko to accept the return of her bride price, citing repeated harassment, arrests, and threats against family members.

Stanley Ontop had shared the family’s letter on social media and expressed public solidarity with Regina, a move that allegedly provoked the senator’s reaction.

Though no official arrest order has been confirmed, activists fear the situation reflects a broader pattern of political interference and suppression of dissent.

Human rights groups have since called on authorities to ensure transparency in handling the matter and to safeguard citizens’ rights to free expression without fear of persecution.

It would be recalled that Regina’s, brother, Samuel Ojeogwu  also known as “Sammy West was recently arrested by the police on the order of Senator Nwoko following the couple’s dispute.

He is reportedly facing charges of criminal defamation, a move that has drawn widespread condemnation as an abuse of power and violation of due process.
