Lagos gives NUPENG Nov 10 ultimatum on Lekki e-call-up compliance
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has given the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, up to November 10 to fully comply with the Lekki e-call up system, following a crucial meeting in Alausa, Ikeja, over continued violations of the electronic platform by some tanker operators.
During a meeting, on Monday, with NUPENG representatitves, Osiyemi expressed deep displeasure at what he described as a recurring pattern of disregard for the e-call up booking process, warning that such actions threaten the government’s efforts to ensure efficient traffic management across the Lekki–Epe corridor.
He noted that repeated breaches of the system had encouraged illegal cash transactions and indiscriminate truck parking along major access roads, resulting in congestion and operational inefficiency within the corridor.
Reaffirming the state’s stance, Osiyemi stressed that the e-call up system mandates all petroleum tankers and articulated vehicles to undergo proper validation and obtain clearance before accessing designated parks or loading facilities.
He emphasised that the process was designed to be transparent and straightforward, leaving no room for shortcuts or manual interference.
The commissioner warned that the government would begin strict enforcement immediately after the November 10 deadline if NUPENG members failed to comply.
In response, NUPENG officials at the meeting pledged to intensify sensitisation efforts among their members and ensure full adherence to the system’s operational guidelines.
They also assured the ministry that other logistical and administrative concerns raised during the deliberation would be promptly addressed.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Lekki e-call up management team and top directors of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, who reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining order and efficiency within the state’s transportation network.
