Abia communities, churches in pain over Uma Ukpai’s death


There was pain and quietness in communities of Ohafia Abia State on Monday, following the confirmation of the death of ace preacher, Rev. Uma Ukpai.

Also, many churches in Abia State were in a sober mood after the news of Rev. Ukpai broke out on Monday.

A visit to some communities in Ohafia, including Asaga his home town, Ebem, Amaekpu and Elu on Monday, showed some of the indigenes in tears, while others were seen, discussing the development, with hands folded.

The community members described the late preacher as a man who loved his people by attracting development to Ohafia and helping the poor people, adding that he was fearless in telling the truth to the leaders of Abia State and Nigeria at large, while he was alive.

At Assembly of God Church branches in Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia, members lamented the sad development.

Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti and his predecessor, Okezie Ikpeazu have paid tribute to the late gospel preacher, saying that his death was a big loss to Abia State.

Rev. Uma Ukpai, who was the founder and President of Umuahia Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Uyo died at the age of 80 years.
