Anambra election: 6,879 BVAS configured, ready for use – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured that about 6,879 BVAS have been configured and ready for deployment for Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
INEC chairman, Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan made this known during the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting held at Prof Dora Akunyili Memorial Centre, Awka, on Tuesday.
He said out of the thirteen activities outlined for the election on Saturday, eleven of them have been successfully met.
He said INEC has published all the names of the sixteen candidates participating in the election, insisting that any candidate whose name was not published in the list would not participate in the election.
He announced that about 3,456 persons with disabilities will be voting to exercise their civic rights.
The INEC chairman noted that about 6, 829 BVAS have been deployed and configured for the election and the IReV is ready to upload results in real time and the winner announced without delay.
Amupitan said he wants to use this aspect to measure his credibility as INEC chairman.
“As of this moment, 11 out of the 13 scheduled activities have been successfully implemented. The two remaining milestones are: End of campaigns – Midnight on Thursday, 6th November 2025 and Election Day – Saturday, 8th November 2025,” he said.
“The Commission has published the final list of candidates contesting the election. In accordance with Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, political parties retained the right to replace candidates who voluntarily withdrew.
“Following the conclusion of the voter registration exercise and subsequent clean-up of the database, the Commission on 4th September 2025 approved a final register of 2,802,790 voters for this election.
“A total of 168,187 new registrations were recorded across the 326 Wards of the State. After the mandatory display for claims and objections and further Automated Biometric Identification System, ABIS, screening, 27,817 invalid multiple entries were removed, leaving 140,370 valid new voters.
“Additionally, 5,983 transfers were approved. In line with our commitment to transparency, political parties participating in this election have already received soft copies of the Register of Voters.”
Also speaking, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, in charge of Force Intelligence, Benjamin Okolo, said the police would be civil in their conduct during the election.
He said violence and inducement will not be tolerated during the election
He encouraged political parties and their candidates to persuade voters than resorting to provocation.
Earlier, the supervising national commissioner and Chairman Tenders Board committee, Dr Ken Ukeagu, said that the systems to be used for the election are ready.
He said 114 domestic observers have been accredited and 76 media organisations registered.
Ukeagu stressed on the need voters to have their PVCs ready or they will not be allowed to vote.
He disclosed that about 24,000 adhoc staff have been trained for the election and ready for the exercise
In her remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Anambra State, Queen Elizabeth Agwu said everything is ready for Saturday’s governorship election.
