Arsenal extend Premier League lead with 2-0 win over Burnley
Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, as Viktor Gyokeres ended his five-game goal drought.
The Sweden international broke the deadlock early in the first half, heading home from a corner to score his first league goal since September 13 and his sixth in all competitions since joining from Sporting Lisbon in the summer.
Gyokeres then turned provider before the interval, lofting a precise pass to Leandro Trossard, who set up Declan Rice to double Arsenal’s lead.
The striker was withdrawn at half-time, sparking minor injury concerns, but the Gunners comfortably saw out the game to secure their ninth consecutive win in all competitions.
Arsenal have now won eight of their opening ten league games and remain unbeaten defensively in their last seven matches across all competitions.
After finishing runners-up in the Premier League for the past three seasons, Mikel Arteta’s side are determined to go one better this time and end their 21-year wait for a league title.
The Gunners’ focus now shifts to the Champions League, where they face Slavia Prague on Tuesday amid a demanding run of seven fixtures in just 22 days.
