Bauchi seeks NASS approval for creation of 29 new LGAs

The Bauchi State Government has submitted a proposal to the National Assembly seeking approval for the creation of 29 additional local government areas.

The proposal, signed by Governor Bala Mohammed, was transmitted to the Constitution Review Committee through the deputy clerk of the state House of Assembly, Musa Yerima.

In a letter addressed to Senator Barau Jibrin, chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, the state legislature noted that it had passed a bill to establish the new local councils, pending approval by the National Assembly.

The proposed local government areas include Balma, Bauchi East, Bauchi West, Beshongo, Bula, Burra, and Chinade, among others.

Bauchi currently has 20 local government areas. If approved, the new additions will bring the total to 49, a move the state government says will strengthen grassroots governance and accelerate development.
