Boko Haram: We will put right pegs in the right holes, says Shaibu
Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), on Thursday pledged to appoint right field commanders to lead the war against terrorism and violent extremists in the northeast region.
The Lieutenant General reaffirmed this while addressing newsmen shortly after over three hour of intensive closed door meeting with the Theater Commander, Joint Task Force North east Operation Hadin Kai and other commanders at the military control and command in Maimalari on Thursday.
The Army Chief said that he will prioritise frontline troops welfare and their families, and uphold fairness and justice within the system.
“We will ensure that the right people are in the right places, we will appoint the right type of Commanders and staff officers to various areas so that they will ensure that they do what is best for the soldiers in terms of upholding fairness and justice within the system and to ensure that every person get what is due to him or her. We will make sure that nobody is deprived of his/her due rights,” he said.
He however noted that his presence in the state is aimed at commending the troops for their relentless efforts in keeping their Areas of Operation safe.

“My coming here is to appreciate the troops for what they have been doing particularly in securing their areas of operation. We will ensure that soldiers get what is due to them on time going forward and we will also see how we can extend that to both their families,” he added.
The Army Chief further stated that efforts are in place to introduce policies that will address the welfare concerns
“We will do our best to drive all those polices that will improve soldier’s welfare, and we will make sure to that that on time.
We will pay their allowances on time. I am sure you are aware that the recent ration allowance have been improved. There are other packages that are coming up for the soldiers as well as their families,” he stated.
“We will continue to do that, bearing in mind that the moral concept of fighting power is key to achieving our desired mission.” he said.
Recall that Tinubu had, on Friday, October 24, 2025, announced sweeping changes in the military hierarchy “in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture,” according to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare.
Under the new appointments, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede replaced Gen. Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. Gen. Waidi Shaibu was named the new Chief of Army Staff; Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke became the Chief of Air Staff; and Rear Admiral I. Abbas was appointed Chief of Naval Staff.
