EPL: 5 fixtures we could see shock results this weekend
The Premier League enters Match Day 9 this weekend and we will see several interesting fixtures.
Arsenal will be looking to maintain top spot when they host Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Second-placed Manchester City are away to Aston Villa on the same day.
Before all that though, Chelsea welcome Sunderland, Liverpool travel to Brentford and Manchester United host Brighton.
So, what five matches can we expect upsets?
1. Chelsea vs Sunderland: Enzo Maresca’s men seem to have discovered a bit of form lately, with back-to-back wins against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. However, Sunderland will be tricky guests on Saturday. The Black Cats look determined to stay in the topflight and are picking points they need to.
2. Man Utd vs Brighton: A lot of observers have said this game will be litmus test of if Manchester United are back on track. Ruben Amorim finally recorded consecutive wins during his time in charge. And last weekend’s win at Liverpool was a big one. But Brighton have also gotten United’s number at Old Trafford.
3. Arsenal vs Crystal Palace: Last season, Oliver Glasner’s men were one of the teams that took points off Arsenal at the Emirates, as their title charge faded away. Although they have since lost their unbeaten record, Palace are a decent side and will be looking to test the Gunners’ credentials again.
4. Brentford vs Liverpool: If you take out the 5-1 win at Frankfurt in the Champions League in midweek, Liverpool have lost four games in a row – three of those in the Premier League. Despite losing their manager and key players in the summer, Brentford still look a solid team and will cause teams problems.
5. Aston Villa vs Man City: When Manchester City fell apart last season, Villa Park was one of the places they crumbled. Although Pep Guardiola’s team will make the trip this time around confident, especially with the red-hot Erling Haaland, they still need to be wary of a resurgent Villa side.
