EPL: ‘They can’t win title’ – David James tips Arsenal for bad season
Former goalkeeper, David James, has said despite their impressive run in the Premier League so far this season, Arsenal will not win the title.
The Gunners are four points above second-placed Bournemouth in the Premier League following their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side took full advantage of Liverpool and Manchester City defeats to Brentford and Aston Villa respectively
Liverpool have lost four of their last four league games and are now outside the top-four.
Mikel Arteta’s side have only been able to finish as runners-up for the past three seasons and are widely tipped to win the title this time around.
James had earlier predicted Arsenal would suffer a drop-off this term and finish fourth at the beginning of the campaign.
And speaking to Metro, the former England shot-stopper said it would be ‘foolish’ to stand by that prediction as the Gunners have shown they are ready for something bigger but maintained the north Londoners would not be champions.
“I don’t think Arsenal will win the title if that’s an answer, even if they’ve started well.
“I think the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool will go into the last weeks of the season, if not the last game of the season, and possibly decide the title race.
“But it will be interesting with Arteta to see how he handles qualification for the Champions League and maintain that top position in the Premier League, and I don’t think they’ll be able to do it.”
Arsenal’s next game in the English top flight is at Turf Moor against Burnley. Liverpool face a tricky match at home to Aston Villa.
