FCT Police begin major crackdown on criminals, to continue until January 2026
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a large-scale crackdown on criminal elements across Abuja and its environs, in a renewed push to strengthen security and maintain the peace currently being enjoyed by residents.
Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, announced the commencement of the special operation, which will run from November 2025 through January 2026.
The move, according to him, underscores the Command’s determination to flush out criminal elements operating within the nooks and crannies of the Territory.
Under the new directive, tactical and surveillance units under the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), including operatives from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), have been deployed to work alongside the Department of Operations and divisional formations across the FCT.
Dantawaye explained that the operation would be “intense and sustained,” targeting identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and vulnerable communities.
He said the exercise aims to “identify, dislodge, and apprehend” all criminal elements in the Territory to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
The police chief warned that no act of misconduct, laxity, or unprofessional behaviour would be tolerated during the operation.
He charged all officers involved to exhibit discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights while carrying out their duties.
“This operation is a strategic intervention to sustain the relative peace we have achieved so far. Our men have been directed to dominate all identified flashpoints to ensure that residents can move about safely, day and night”, Dantawaye said.
He further urged residents of the FCT to support the initiative by cooperating with police personnel and sharing timely information that could help security agencies combat crime.

“Community collaboration is vital for success. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, persons, or activities to the nearest police station”, he said.

Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, confirmed that the operation commenced on November 2, 2025, and will continue until January 2026.
The statement reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment for all residents and visitors to the capital city.
