Free Nnamdi Kanu: ‘Police action terroristic’ – Lawyer
Human rights lawyer, Chidi Odinkalu, has condemned in strong terms the clampdown on #FreeNnamdiKanu protesters, describing police action as terroristic.
Featuring in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Thursday, Odinkalu described the action as unlawful and irresponsible.
“Security agencies clampdown on #FreeNnamdiKanu protesters is unlawful and irresponsible.
“There is constitutional right to Freedom of Speech, Assembly or Association. And those who are advocating for the release of detained pro-Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu, through the mechanism of protest, has the constitutional right to do so.
“What the police did during that protest was terroristic. You cannot unsettle the entire city the way the police did just for the sake of precluding a protest.
“If they had just marshalled the protesters along the road, people would have been able to do their businesses with minimal interference.
“The idea of imprisoning the entire city just so that you terrorise the entire community efficiently to preclude a protest is unlawfully terroristic,” he said.
