Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament to chair 9th GITFiC Conference

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will chair the 9th Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC 2025).
According to Selasi Koffi Ackom, the CEO of GITFiC, Bagbin’s chairmanship is a signal of the Ghanaian Parliament’s growing influence in shaping Africa’s economic and financial agenda.
The event, organised by the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC) and the National Technical Working Committee of the GITFiC Agenda 2031, will take place in Accra from November 27 to 29, 2025.
This year’s conference will host the second meeting of the Global Debt Initiative under the theme “Spurring GITFiC’s Global Debt Initiative; Consolidating Member States’ Gains for Synergistic Impact.” It will also feature the inaugural GITFiC–AfCFTA Tertiary Students’ Congress, a major step in engaging Africa’s next generation on trade and finance.
Selasi noted, “Bagbin’s role underscores Ghana’s commitment to inclusive growth and Africa-driven solutions to global debt and development challenges.” “It also highlights the crucial role of parliaments in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable policy reform,” he added.
The three-day event will gather ministers, central bank governors, economists, business leaders, and civil society from across Africa. Discussions will focus on debt sustainability, trade integration, and implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
A major highlight will be the launch of the AfCFTA Students’ Congress, an initiative to empower young Africans to contribute to policy dialogue and trade reforms. It is noted that the Congress will build on GITFiC’s rollout of AfCFTA Students’ Clubs and curricula across universities in Africa.
Since its inception, GITFiC has become Ghana’s leading platform for dialogue on trade and finance. According to the organisers, the 2025 edition aims to strengthen collaboration among governments, financial institutions, and academia, advancing policies that promote resilience, inclusion, and regional integration.
