Gov Yusuf orders Emirs to sustain Kano’s annual durbar

The Kano State Government has intensified security measures to prevent any possible attack on schools and cultural events across the state, including the ongoing KANFEST 2025.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the directive while speaking at the opening ceremony of KANFEST (Kalankuwa) 2025 on Saturday.

He instructed all Emirs in the state to sustain the annual Durbar festival as part of efforts to protect Kano’s cultural identity.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the Durbar and other traditional celebrations as “symbols of unity and pride” for the people of Kano.

He assured that his administration would continue to support the Emirates to ensure the centuries-old horse-riding tradition is preserved, strengthened, and showcased globally.

He said, “We are committed to empowering our youth and women through cultural initiatives that highlight the creativity and heritage of our people.”

Governor Yusuf also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to investing in arts, culture, and tourism as tools for promoting peace, engaging the youth, and boosting the economy.

The Emir of Kano and Chairman of the State Council of Emirates, Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, praised the governor for what he described as “a visionary step in restoring the diminished and valuable traditions of the Kano people.”

KANFEST 2025, which runs for three days, features exhibitions of local foods, cultural performances, traditional games, drama, crafts, fabrics, pottery, and presentations by cultural experts.
