Gunmen attack federal lawmaker in Niger

Bandits allegedly attacked Hon. Jafaru Mohammed Ali, the House of Representatives member for the Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency of Niger State, as he travelled to meet his constituents.

The incident occurred today, November 4, 2025, at about 11 am.

According to reports, the lawmaker was on his way to meet with people of his constituency to discuss development projects he intended to introduce to the area when the attack took place.

A local source revealed that the ambush happened at the village of Kuble, along the Agwara-Babana road. The source added that the lawmaker and the security personnel accompanying him were seriously injured. Soldiers were reportedly dispatched to the scene to secure the area and rescue the wounded.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said a report was received indicating that the legislator and his party had been attacked at Audu-Fari village on the Babana road by suspected bandits while heading towards the Babana area.

According to him, “However, the joint security team in the convoy responded, repelled and rescued the Honourable member to safety, while some persons sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.”
