Insecurity: Kebbi Rep calls for improved rural security infrastructure

The member representing Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Mohammed, has called on the Federal Government to urgently strengthen security infrastructure in rural communities across Kebbi State and other parts of the country affected by banditry and related crimes.

Raising a motion of urgent public importance on the floor of the House of Representatives, Mohammed expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in rural areas, where incidents of bandit attacks, cattle rustling, and kidnappings have become frequent.

He said the activities of criminal elements have forced many residents to flee their homes and farmlands, disrupting agricultural activities and education.

“Farmers are being forced to flee their farms, schools have been closed down, and families displaced,” he lamented.

The lawmaker warned that the situation poses a serious threat to food security and rural development in the state and beyond.

Citing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which places the security and welfare of citizens as the primary responsibility of government, Mohammed urged the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Police Force to take immediate and decisive action to address the challenge.
