Iwobi clarifies viral video after exposing Super Eagles hotel conditions in Rabat

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has sparked controversy after a video surfaced showing the poor state of the hotel where the Nigerian team is lodged in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash against Gabon on Thursday.

In a short nine-second clip shared by sports journalist POOJA!!! (@PoojaMedia) on X (formerly Twitter), Iwobi appeared speechless as he recorded the surroundings of the team’s hotel, highlighting the substandard conditions the Super Eagles are enduring in camp.

The video quickly went viral, prompting widespread concern among fans and pundits over the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) handling of logistics and player welfare for such a vital fixture.

As of Monday, 14 players have checked into the team’s base in Rabat.

However, Iwobi has since clarified his stance, insisting he never made any complaint or passed judgment about the accommodation.

“Are you seeing life? It’s all about perspective, because I snapped at the view I have and people are thinking these guys are ungrateful,” Iwobi said in a social media post.

“Brother, I never said one thing. I just did one look like this, never said a word. Because, you see, in life, some people don’t even have yards; some of them don’t have beds.”

Iwobi added that he is content with his surroundings and fully focused on the upcoming game.

“Bro, I’m comfy. I’m playing Mario Kart. Anyways, let me go and focus, I have a big game coming up.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup African Playoff Tournament, with the winner advancing to meet either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final.
