Kaduna varsity wins ₦1bn TETFund grant for commercial agriculture
Kaduna State University (KASU) has achieved another milestone, emerging as the only state university in Nigeria to win a ₦1 billion competitive grant for commercial agriculture.
The prestigious grant, awarded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), followed a rigorous national selection process that assessed institutional capacity, innovation, and readiness for large-scale agricultural transformation.
KASU distinguished itself by meeting all requirements, including a strong entrepreneurial foundation in agriculture, robust facilities, and a progressive institutional culture that promotes innovation, public–private partnerships, and efficiency.
Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, expressed profound gratitude for the achievement, describing it as a validation of KASU’s ongoing reforms.
“This grant is not just a win for KASU but for the entire people of Kaduna State,” Musa said.
“It affirms that when universities abandon outdated traditions that stifle creativity and instead embrace reform, innovation, and accountability, excellence naturally follows.”
Professor Musa commended Maharazu Ibrahim Kubau, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, for his visionary leadership and dedication to transforming the faculty into a model of modern agricultural practice. He noted that the faculty has replaced old, unproductive systems with new structures that emphasise innovation, efficiency, and measurable results.
The Vice Chancellor also appreciated Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his consistent support for education and agriculture, describing him as “a people’s governor whose leadership continues to drive the state toward sustainable growth and development.”

According to KASU management, the ₦1 billion TETFund grant will be utilised to strengthen the university’s commercial agricultural ventures, establish agribusiness incubation hubs, and expand research–industry linkages that will promote food security, youth employment, and sustainable economic growth.
