Kano cleric accused of blasphemy apologizes to muslim community

Lawal Shuaibu Triumph, the Islamic cleric accused of making blasphemous remarks against the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), has apologised to the people of Kano State and all those offended by his comments.

In a private meeting convened by the Kano State Council of Islamic Scholars (Majalisar Shura) — established by the state government — Triumph was seen in a short video clip pleading for forgiveness and pledging to reform his preaching style.

“Those who know me are aware that I am always willing to visit any senior scholar for advice and guidance. May Allah bless you all and grant peace to our state,” Triumph said during the meeting.

Details of the discussions held behind closed doors remain unclear, but sources confirmed that the session was organised by the state government to foster reconciliation between the cleric and the wider Muslim community.

Initially, the Shura Council had planned to broadcast the proceedings live on media platforms, but according to a source who spoke to DAILY POST, the idea was shelved due to security concerns. The meeting was subsequently held at an undisclosed location.

It remains uncertain whether Triumph’s apology will bring an end to the controversy or if further actions will follow, as the public awaits an official statement from the Kano State Government on the outcome of the meeting.

In 2022, a Kano court sentenced another Islamic cleric Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara to death after finding him guilty of making similar blasphemous comments against the Prophet Muhammad, though the verdict was later appealed.
