Katsina: Police arrest 168 suspects, rescue 80 kidnapped victims in September

Katsina State Police Command says it arrested 168 suspected criminals linked to 105 reported cases across the state in September.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday in Katsina while highlighting the achievements recorded within the period.

According to him, the suspects include 12 robbery suspects, five for murder and culpable homicide, and more than 20 suspected rapists. Others are nine suspected vandals, two gunrunners, three for unlawful possession of firearms, and 14 illicit drug dealers.

Aliyu said the command also foiled several bandit attacks, neutralised five suspected bandits, and rescued over 80 kidnapped victims during the month.

He further revealed that operatives recovered 1,298 rounds of live ammunition, four cartridges, one General Purpose Machine Gun, GPMG, two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated gun, and five suspected stolen vehicles.

Other recovered items included five motorcycles, 1,096 tramadol tablets, 42 exol tablets, wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a large quantity of vandalised electric cables.

Aliyu quoted the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, as commending residents for their cooperation, which contributed to the command’s successes.

“We sincerely express our deepest appreciation for their support, collaboration, and assistance in our crime-fighting efforts to maintain law and order in the state,” he said.

He urged the public to continue reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station to help sustain security gains across the state.
