Kogi: Principal urges parents to take an active role in monitoring children’s activities for better future

Yakubu Godwin, the Principal of GYB Model Science Secondary School (GYBMSSS), has advised parents to take an active role in monitoring their children’s activities to ensure a better future for them.

Godwins, while speaking at the Orientation Programme for new students on Tuesday at the school, emphasised the need for parents to monitor their children’s activities both in and out of school, adding that parents have a collective responsibility with the school to nurture their children into better individuals.

He pointed out the need to ensure that children are punctual, regular, and of good moral character, as he encourages parents and communities to appreciate teachers and give them a rightful place in society to have a nation free of vices.

Godwin stressed that the school’s target is not just to produce certificate holders but to prepare students to be useful to themselves and society.

He appealed to parents to release their children to attend school regularly and punctually, without overburdening them, which could negatively impact their progress, as he urges parents to provide necessary textbooks and support the school’s efforts in generating quality leaders.

Godwins expressed gratitude to the State Government, led by Gov. Ahmed Ododo, for providing magnificent infrastructures, adequate security, and qualified teachers to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Godwins urged parents to live exemplary lives that their children can emulate and to provide necessary support to aid their academic success.

The orientation programme featured several sessions, including a presentation on “Proper Channels of Communication” by the Vice Principal (VP) Administration, Ladi Ameji.

She emphasised the importance of following the normal channel through the Form Teacher, subject teacher, Guardian and Counselling Unit.

Benson Ugwoke, the VP Academic 1, who spoke on “Upholding Integrity and Good Conduct, urged students to uphold good conduct to earn self-respect, trustworthiness, and become role models in society.

Also, Toyin Omotosho outlined the school’s rules and regulations, including punctuality, mutual respect, obedience, and avoidance of unlawful assembly, theft, and loitering.

The parents commended the school management and staff for their exceptional efforts in nurturing well-grounded students who excel in both character and academics, urging them to maintain the standard.

Zedrach Igiku, the Chairman, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), appealed to parents to give their full support to the school in raising godly children who will make the nation proud.
