Lawyer Inibehe Effiong Reveals The Capital of Corruption And Iniquity In Nigeria

 

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has named Abuja as the capital of iniquity and corruption.

 

According to him, the FCT is where good people are easily compromised.

 

Effiong made the assertion on Friday during an interview on ‘The Morning Brief’, a programme on Channels Television.

 

He was reacting to the statement released by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin on the arrest of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.

 

Recall that Sowore led protests on Monday demanding the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

 

The Nigeria Police on Thursday arrested Sowore and took him into custody at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

 

The Force spokesman had said at a media conference on Thursday that the police arrested Sowore for luring protesters into a restricted area to protest in contravention of an order of a court.

 

Reacting to Hundeyin’s statement, the human rights lawyer said, “I’m not surprised that Benjamin Hundeyin will make such commentaries on national television to say that they arrested Sowore simply in the spirit of fairness.

“According to the police, it is only fair that having arrested 13 others, and those persons in their statement indicated that it was Sowore who led them that it will be unfair to arrest them for protesting in restricted areas without also arresting and prosecuting Mr Sowore.

“What bothers me is that I know the gentleman from Lagos when he was the state police spokesperson and some of us had course to work with him and we felt that he was a fine police officer.

“But this is Abuja, the capital of iniquity and corruption in our country where even people with good intentions are easily compromised.

“But let us even get to the substance of the matter. What is the allegation against Sowore?”
